GTA V to Remain in America?

A couple more interviews with vice president of Rockstar Games, Dan Houser, have surfaced recently. One of these contains a nice little tidbit regarding the setting of GTA games and slight reasoning for the choice behind them. Surprisingly it's the slightly unrelated Entertainment Weekly blog coming forth with the goods this time.

The bulk of the interview discusses the past GTA games and other franchises Rockstar have produced, but on the final page of the interview the following question about the setting of the next/future GTA games is posed:

IGN's Week of GTA III Features

In the past week there were many, mostly reflective, news articles published regarding GTA III. We didn't bother posting each one so as not to overload you. IGN's coverage was the most in-depth, they dedicated the week to celebrating Grand Theft Auto III - so here's a round-up of all the stuff they posted.

  • How Grand Theft Auto III Carjacked Open World Games - Rockstar focused more than two decades of open world game design into a single classic. and left the industry a better place for it.
  • The Game Industry Remembers Grand Theft Auto III - Leading lights from Bethesda, Insomniac, Valve and more celebrate GTA III's tenth anniversary.

Happy 10th Birthday GTA3!

Can you believe it was 10 years ago today that we first got our filthy little hands on Grand Theft Auto III? At the time, I hadn't been following all the hype surrounding the game. I'd played the classic GTAs, but I had no idea that GTA III was so revolutionary in comparison. It wasn't until a couple of months after its release, just after Christmas, when I watched my best friend play the game. Within 5 minutes of watching him play I knew I had to buy it. After 5 more minutes he let me have a go - but I was already sold. I went out and bought the game the very next day.

Steam Weekend Deal - Up to 75% off all GTA games!

Steam have a pretty incredible deal this weekend, offering 66% off all individual GTA games. Pretty amazing right? Wrong, you'd be a fool if you bought any at that price. Why? Because the "complete pack" (which includes every GTA game released for PC) includes all the discounted games with an additional 75% off! This means you can own every GTA game for just £4.99 ($12.49). Offer is valid until the 24th October.

UPDATE: Apparently the "complete pack" deal is country-specific, while the individual games are on offer worldwide. It's definitely available in the UK and US though. Let us know if it's available in your country in the comments below. This deal is a pretty good one that you won't want to miss out on.

To mark this Saturday's 10 year anniversary of the release of Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar have put together a nice tribute video to the game. Hard to believe it's been so long... check out the video below.

We would like to extend our immense gratitude to all GTA fans worldwide for your amazing long-time support, from early on all the way to today. Thank you.

GTA III 10th Anniversary Asked & Answered

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of GTA III, Rockstar are asking for your questions about the game for a special edition of Asked & Answered. They are welcoming questions "about the characters, about the making of the game, really anything you've been dying to know for the past ten years." No questions are off-limits, anything goes as long as it's related to GTA III in some way - so they don't want any questions about the next GTA (nothing to say yet!).

San Andreas Now Available on Mac App Store

Rounding off the Grand Theft Auto trilogy's excursion to the Mac App Store is the release of San Andreas, priced the same as GTA3 and Vice City at £10.49 ($14.99 / 11,99 €).

Vice City Now Available on Mac App Store

Following on from last week's news of GTA3 coming to the Mac App Store, we can now tell you that Vice City is also now available at the same price of £10.49 ($14.99 / 11,99 €).

Receiving mostly 5 star ratings from customers who have purchased the game already, it's safe to say gamers are happy with the release, as they were with GTA3. Next week will see the completion of the trilogy's arrival on the Mac App Store, with the release of San Andreas. We'll let you know when it hits.

Good news for Mac owners among us, Rockstar Games are releasing the whole Grand Theft Auto Trilogy for Mac via the Mac App Store. Starting today with Grand Theft Auto III, you'll also see Vice City and San Andreas released on 25th August and 1st September respectively.

Take-Two CEO avoids GTA V question

Take-Two Interactive last night revealed their financial results for fiscal year 2012. Unfortunately there was no mention of Grand Theft Auto V anywhere, however, part of the report makes mention of the company's outlook in fiscal year 2013 (April 2012 - March 2013), it reads:
"... we have a very strong pipeline of yet-to-be announced titles in development. As a result, we continue to expect to achieve substantial revenue and earnings growth, including Non-GAAP net income in excess of $2.00 per share." (emphasis mine).

App Store - Chinatown Wars and Beaterator on special offer

Good news for those of you with iPhones and iPads who don't own Chinatown Wars or Beaterator yet, Rockstar has slashed the prices of these two games for a limited time only (offer ends 11:59pm EST, Sunday, 31st July) to celebrate the summer.

Steam Sale: 71% off The Rockstar Collection

The Steam Summer Camp sale has started, and from now until the 10th July you can grab some great games at massively discounted prices. Something of which might be of interest to you is "The Rockstar Collection". This collection consists of all the Grand Theft Auto games, Max Payne 1 and 2, Bully, and Midnight Club 2.
Savings of 71% mean you can grab all these games for just £27.99 ($39.99).

Activision acquire Take-Two

UPDATE: As you probably realised, yes, this was just an April Fools' joke. Credit to GTANF for the idea, and shout-outs to GTAGaming, GTANetwork.it, GTA Légende, and GTAForums.fr for joining in!

Grand Theft Auto 5 inadvertently confirmed on Twitter?

UPDATE: This story was originally sourced from a satirical gaming website, but passed on as fact by many larger gaming networks. That is to say this is confirmed false.

Interesting story making the rounds today as Gilbert Gottfried, so-called "funnyman" and "actor", apparently tweeted this: "just found out I'm voicing the lead in grand theft auto 5! also I hate japan lol."

Rather tellingly, nobody thought to screencap the tweet, and it doesn't appear in Google's cache of his Twitter feed. Based on Gottfried's previous tweets making fun of the earthquake/tsunami in Japan, it's possible he never actually said this and it's just a publicity stunt or random attempt at comedy.
